How did Squirrel Mind Design get its name?

My husband, Joe, always tells me I have a squirrel mind and I like to create a lot of different art, so I thought Squirrel Mind Design was a good fit!

What types of classes do you offer?

I offer clay and pottery classes ranging from 1 to 3 sessions. I have six potter’s wheels and also handbuilding and glazing art tables. I also offer glazing-only sessions for those that just want to glaze a mug, vase, or other item. In the future, I plan to offer additional art and craft classes like painting and soap making.

Do I need any prior experience to join a class?

No. Many people are trying this for the first time. I start with a basic demonstration, then help everyone as they work. I welcome parties, date nights, and family outings.

Where is your studio located?

Squirrel Mind Design Studio is in Rogers, Minnesota, near Hanover and St. Michael. The studio is on a wooded lot with chickens and goats nearby, creating a unique mix of pottery, nature, and community.

What should I expect during a class?

You can expect guidance, a supportive environment, and time to work at your own pace. Most importantly, you will have fun, be creative, and meet great people in the community.

What should I bring with me?

Just yourself, clothes and shoes you do not mind getting messy, and an apron if you would like.

What is your cancellation or rescheduling policy?

There is no charge for rescheduling more than 24 hours in advance. There is no refund for cancellations within 24 hours or no-shows. If someone on the waitlist fills your spot, there is no charge.

Are your dogs, chickens and goats part of the studio experience?

They are more like background characters that add personality. The focus remains on pottery, but you are welcome to say hello before or after your class.

What if I have allergies or am uncomfortable around animals?

That is understandable. Let me know ahead of time and I can help you decide if the space will be comfortable for you.

Are your pieces food-safe, dishwasher safe, and microwave safe?

Yes. Top rack dishwasher use is recommended. A few glazes are not food-safe, but those are not used on dinnerware.

Can I request custom pieces?

Absolutely. I have created many custom mugs and plate sets for customers.

Welcome to Squirrel Mind Design

My name is Lea, and I am the creator of all products in Squirrel Mind Design and teach classes through my new studio. This company is meant to bring out the uniqueness of you and your favorite people through handmade custom pottery. I am inspired by nature and enjoy switching up designs on my pottery often. My new studio is a dream come true where I can teach students of all ages clay, art, and craft techniques. The studio is surrounded by a wooded lot and a hobby farm which really brings the serenity of nature right into the studio experience.

Take a Class at Squirrel Mind Design Studio

I teach out of my home studio in Rogers, MN. Classes are smaller, more personal and a little more relaxed than a traditional setting. I want it to feel like a place people can settle into and enjoy being in. Around here, you’ll probably hear the chickens through one window, spot the goats in another or be greeted by a dog or three.
